WEEK 108 MENU: April 12-17, 2022
Lombardia: Where it All Began
Italy has lifted all COVID-related restrictions. Italy and, most specifically, the region of Lombardia, was the first Western nation to be devastated by the disease. Despite all this, Italians have a truly unique take on life – maybe because they have suffered so many hardships through time, they have mastered a fundamental understanding of what really matters. It is because of the value Italians place on family and their traditions that it is easy to understand why the art of cooking and then congregating around the table has been fundamental to their survival in this unprecedented difficult time – especially in the hardest hit region of Lombardia. Their comfort food will most certainly be prepared with recipes past down from generations utilizing products that are grown and produced close to home.
This week’s menu showcases some of the most beloved ingredients and recipes from this complex and diverse region.
WEEK 108 WINE
Calatroni, PINOT NOIR, Crested Porcupine Dell’ Oltrepo Pavese DOC 2020
Intense with notes of fresh red fruit aromas, such as cherry and red currants. Full harmony between structure, length, and tannins. It is fruit, intense, and inviting.
EVERY SUNDAY: Prime Rib Sunday Supper
Our Sunday night Prime Rib Supper is designed to deliver good, solid comfort food to nurture both the flesh and the spirit. We slow-roast our herb-crusted prime rib for hours, and serve it sliced thick with a rich beef jus reduction and crispy steak fries, fresh salad, rosemary focaccia and our Tuscan tiramisu. We are also offering three tiers of wine that go beautifully with supper. Enjoy!
EVERY SUNDAY: Fried Chicken Meal
At our little Trattoria in Tuscany we were famous for our "Pollo Fritto," fried chicken. The Florentines would drive out to visit us in the country on the weekends and we would always sell out. I am proud to say that my American friends and customers (even those from the South!) seem to have also fallen in love with my recipe so I am starting a new tradition. On Sundays I will be frying up my recipe -- this time for the Washingtonians.
And now we have perfected a Gluten-Free version that is equally delicious and have created an entire menu that is gluten-free to accompany.
