The wine’s perfume of lavender, roses, and wild berries is pure ambrosia. It’s bright, juicy, fresh flavors are heavenly pleasure. A specialty of the hills around the town of Morro d’Alba, the Lacrima grape — named for the teardrop-like shape of its berries — was all but extinct when a handful of estates in Le Marche recovered and revived it. WEEK TWENTY-TWO WINE: A limited Tuscan rose with notes of strawberry

Every season Azienda Agricola Fontaleoni produce a small amount of “rosato” which makes for an ideal summer pairing for the beautiful produce of the season as well as the leisurely gathering of friends and family. Their rosato is based on the noble Sangiovese varietal which yields bright cherry and strawberry flavors with nuances of almond and savory acidity .

WEEK TWENTY-ONE WINE: A 90-point delicious Super Tuscan

Le Maestrelle 2017, Antinori Super Tuscan. Le Maestrelle presents a ruby red color with purple highlights. The nose is intense and complex with minty notes of Merlot and well-integrated with the characteristic red fruit aromas of Sangiovese and Syrah. The palate is balanced, soft and savory, with a complex finish and aftertaste that brings back the notes first sensed on the nose.

WEEK TWENTY-ONE MENU: AUGUST 11-15

Siena is the scene of one of the most anticipated and exciting historical horse races of the year.  To celebrate, the entire city takes to the streets to eat and drink at parties that last all week. These communal dinners bring people together to share in centuries-old traditions of camaraderie and local culinary specialties. Though the Palio will not take place again until 2021, undoubtedly Siena’s citizens will find solace in a great meal at home – just like the one we are featuring this week.
